BridgePoint Electric Brightens Sperry Field House

BridgePoint Electric’s Donation Brightens Sperry Field House

Among the usual list of items requiring the attention of the Sperry School Board during the October 10, 2016, Sperry Board of Education meeting, Board members were pleased to discover the opportunity to vote on something a little out of the ordinary: Mr. Jason Bridgeman, of BridgePoint Electric requested permission to donate materials and labor to replace the Sperry Field House floor lighting.  This surprise request received immediate declarations of gratitude and resounding support from the Board.  In response, Mr. Bridgeman told the Board, “We are very much a Sperry business with long ties to both the town and the school.  Most of our employees live here, went to school here, and have children who are now going to school here.  We are pleased to be able to give back to our community, and the school is the perfect place for us to do that.”

The lighting replacement at the Field House took place Thursday, October 27, after school hours to avoid interrupting instructional time at the school, and was completed in the one evening.  The older lights required several minutes to warm up before they were at full illumination, but the new Steeler LED Round High Bay lamps are at full illumination right away, and have dimmer capabilities when less light is desired on the court area.  “These are high efficiency lights that will brighten the area better, last far longer, and use a fraction of the energy of the original lighting fixtures,” Mr. Bridgeman noted.

Sperry School Board President Jeff Carter said, “This was certainly a pleasant surprise for us all to have Mr. Bridgeman make such a generous donation to the district.  Sperry Schools is a community school and when a kind gesture such as this is offered, it reminds us how lucky we are to live in Sperry where a positive attitude pervades public thinking about the school and community.  All of us on the Board are thankful that we live in a district where people care about the school and have constructive, beneficial ways of showing that.”

Sperry Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Brian Beagles, said, “I walked into the Field House after the new lights had been installed and could immediately tell the difference.  Sperry Schools is fortunate indeed to partner with a company like BridgePoint Electric.  It is impressive enough to see the difference in how the court looks, but the fact that it will cost less to use, and last longer is superseded only by the fact that there was absolutely no cost to the district to make this wise change in lighting.

Head Boys’ Basketball Coach, Lance Kight reiterated Dr. Beagles’ thoughts, and added, “Our fieldhouse was already a top venue to watch basketball, the new lighting makes it an up to date state of the art facility!  We are truly thankful to BridgePoint for donating the new lighting system.”

Head Girls’ Basketball Coach Shane Doyle added, "It speaks volumes about the people at Bridgepoint when, in these tough financial times, they are willing to donate thousands of dollars in materials and labor to help the Sperry School District.”
