Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!

August 3, 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians:

On behalf of the Board of Education, Faculty and Staff, and Administration, I want to extend a warm welcome to you and your children as we begin the 2017-18 school year.  If you are new to the Sperry community or if this is the first year your children will attend Sperry Schools, I especially welcome you into the Pirate Family.  Sperry Schools is a great place for children to mature and develop their talents, and there are many opportunities for you to be involved in both academic and extra-curricular activities.

I want you to know your children are in the hands of competent, capable, and caring teachers who are eager to support and challenge them as appropriate to ensure they are college and career ready.  We are committed to the District’s vision to prepare students to adapt to new learning opportunities throughout their lives, earn a living in an intelligent and responsible manner, and contribute to their community in meaningful and positive ways.  I truly believe nothing is more important than what happens daily in our classrooms as we work toward the realization of this vision.

The past school year was a tremendous success for our students.  Some high school examples include the football team making it to the state playoffs, the girls’ basketball team receiving the State Academic Achievement Award for averaging a GPA of 3.5 or higher, five wrestlers qualifying for state duals and one bringing home another state championship title, FFA students competing in numerous livestock shows across the state, and the band receiving Excellent and Superior ratings at competitions throughout the year.  In addition, the middle school girls’ track team placed second at the Tulsa Seven Conference, and the academic team placed second at regionals and advanced to state competition.  Furthermore, students in second grade were included in a 1:1 instructional technology initiative where every student was provided with a Chromebook to enhance their educational experience.  Moreover, the 1:1 technology initiative for this year will include students from 2nd through 8th grade for reading and mathematics, and in high school journalism.

It is going to be another great year at Sperry Schools, and I invite you to help kick off the year by attending the Back to School Night from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on August 8th.  The first day of class for students is August 10th.  The school calendar, along with many other informative resources, is available on our website at www.sperry.k12.ok.us.  I encourage you to visit this site regularly throughout the school year.

Thank you in advance for your support and for the privilege of serving your children.  It is a great time to be a Sperry Pirate!

Respectfully,

Brian Beagles, Ed.D.
