Pirate Wrestlers Win 3A East Regionals with Eight Wrestlers Advancing to State

 

Sperry High School will continue its search for gold when the Pirate wrestlers travel to the Big House in Oklahoma City Friday and Saturday, February 28 & 29, for the State Tournament at the State Fairgrounds Arena.

 
The Pirates qualified eight wrestlers for State after winning the Class 3A East Regional last weekend in Vinita. The Pirates garnered 200 points, defeating 24 other teams in the process. Perry was second with 186 points followed by Jay at 153.
 
The Pirates crowned three Regional Champions, including returning state champion senior Bryce Carter at 170 pounds. Junior Seth Jackson won the title at 195 pounds and senior Levi Juby won at 220 pounds. They will be making their second trip to State. Junior 132 pounder Eli Benham and senior Stormy Weathers at 152 were Regional runners-up while senior Cooper Park was third at 145. Also qualifying for State were sophomore Chayse Cormican, 5th at 113 pounds; and junior Connor Cosgrave, 5th at 285.
