Sperry Cross Country Teams had a Strong Run This Season

Quadrupling in size, medaling in five of six invitational tournaments, setting school records, and being on the list of the best 3A girls’ runners were some of the highlights from the 2019-2020 Sperry High School cross country season.

With the graduation of one girl and the only two boys from last year's squad, head coach Kevin Brown faced questions about this season.  Fortunately, a group of strong, enthusiastic runners showed up and answered those questions.

The Pirates added new runners on the boys’ team this season.  Juniors Mason Meyer, Gabe Brown, Nic Wensman and Hunter Blevins were joined by sophomores Layne Waller, Brian Rauch and Wyatt Preslar.

The boys’ team ended up ranking No. 25 of 70 schools in Class 3A.

Freshman Kaylee Moore completely took over the girls’ team. She had to – considering she was the only runner for the Lady Pirates.  She did not disappoint, however.  With each run she set new school records, medaling in five of six invitational tournaments.

At the end of the season Kaylee was voted one of the top 40 high school runners in Oklahoma.
