Pirate Tennis Takes a Swing at the Competition

The Pirate and Lady Pirate tennis teams opened their seasons this week with matches against Beggs at the Sperry tennis courts.

Junior Aubrey Sayre defeated Jasmane Berry of the Lady Demons, 8-6 at Number 1 singles. Aubrey trailed 6-1 before storming back to win the set.  "Aubrey stayed focused and she found her serve," said tennis coach Kevin Brown. "She just kept coming back. It was a great effort."

Sperry's No. 1 doubles team of senior Kyla Walters and junior Janel Bridgeman fought hard before losing 8-4. At No. 2 doubles, seniors Hannah Leon and Destiny Goff were defeated, 8-0.

In boys play, sophomore Brian Rauch lost 8-3 in his No. 1 singles match. Freshman Logan Silkey, at No. 2 singles, competed hard before falling, 8-1.

The teams will be in action again on Wednesday, March 25, at the Nowata Invitational.
