ATTENTION PARENTS AND GUARDIANS: Parking Lot Traffic Flow Update

Dear Parents and Guardians:
I am writing to update you on the parking lot renovations at the middle and elementary schools located on the main campus. The renovation work is scheduled to be completed this week. As a result, we will be begin fully using the new traffic flow patterns on Monday morning, October 5, 2020. While this will ultimately increase the safety of our students, it requires a few changes in traffic flow and is likely to create some short-term confusion.
The main changes are: 1) all buses and parents dropping off middle school students will need to enter the bus/parent drop-off lane at the south end of the high school, and 2) the current parking lot entrance from West Main Street will become an exit only. Parents dropping off elementary students or parking at the elementary will continue to enter at the same location where the buses have also been entering. A brief update of each lot is provided below. Please review the information below and the map provided to more clearly understand these changes.
AM Drop-Off Procedures
Pre-K - 3rd Grade AM Student Drop-Off: Cars will enter the drop-off lane, which is marked in yellow on the map, from 4th Street. They will enter the parent/bus lane drop-off lane and proceed south to drop students off. Students will enter the cafeteria or elementary building based on the time they are dropped off. Students arriving between 7:15 and 7:49 will enter the cafeteria. Students arriving at 7:50 or later will enter directly into the elementary building. This lane is for dropping off students only and should not be used if an adult needs to exit the vehicle to assist a child.
Parents of Pre-K - 3rd grade students who need to park and enter a building or attend to other needs prior to dropping off their child will enter the lot for parent parking, which is also marked in yellow, from 4th Street.
6th - 8th Grade AM Student Drop-Off: Cars will enter the parent/bus drop-off lane just south of the high school, then curve around the parent/bus lane to drop students in front of the middle school. Cars will then leave the drop-off lane at the arch and exit onto Main Street or 4th Street. Parents of 6th - 8th grade students who need to park and enter a building or attend to other needs prior to dropping off their child may park in the lot in front of the middle school or in the lot in front of the Administration Building.
Notice the entrance for the lot in front of the middle school is just south of the high school and the direction of travel in the lot is South. The entrance to the lot in front of the Administration Building is about even with the south end of the Administration Building and the direction of travel in the lot is North. Both lots share the same exit onto Main Street or 4th Street.
9th - 12th Grade AM Student Drop-Off: Cars will enter the parking lot north of the Fieldhouse, then curve around the existing loop to drop students off at the Fieldhouse. Cars will exit onto 4th Street and are encouraged to proceed north to help with the traffic flow.
Notes for AM Drop-Off Procedures
- Parking in the drop-off lanes is not allowed. If you need a few minutes with your child or plan to exit your vehicle, please park in an available parking area.
- Please have your child ready to exit the vehicle when you arrive at the drop-off lane.
- Please pull all the way forward to the designated drop-off point before dropping off your child. This will help ease congestion by getting more cars into the drop-off lanes and off the streets.
- Please have your child exit from the passenger side of the vehicle.
PM Pick-Up Procedures
Pre-K - 3rd Grade PM Student Pick-Up: Parking is allowed along 4th Street and in the parking areas designated on the map. There is not a “pick-up” lane in the PM for elementary students.
6th - 8th Grade PM Student Pick-Up: Parking is allowed along 4th Street and in the parking areas designated on the map. There is not a “pick-up” lane in the PM for middle school students.
9th - 12th Grade PM Student Pick-Up: Parking is in the lot north of the Fieldhouse. There is not a “pick-up” lane in the PM for high school students.
Bus Riding Procedures
AM Bus Riders: 6th - 12th students will be dropped off in front of the high school. Pre-K - 3rd students will be dropped off in front of the cafeteria and will then enter the cafeteria.
PM Bus Riders: Buses will line up in the bus lane east of the cafeteria and elementary buildings, which is also the drop-off lane during the AM. Students will exit their respective buildings and walk to their appropriate bus.
Foot Traffic
Parents and students who walk to and/or from school are asked to use the crosswalks. Please talk with your child about using the crosswalks, being mindful of traffic, and staying away from the construction equipment.
It is recommended to plan for an extra 5 minutes for dropping off and picking up students as we make these adjustments; however, things will smooth out once again within a few days.
