Paula Poyner
Third Grade Teacher
Paula Poyner has been an educator for 31 years, including the past two years at Sperry Public Schools. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Oklahoma State University and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Northeastern State University. Her teaching experience includes 22 years with Tulsa Public Schools, five years with Union Public Schools, and one year each with Bixby Public Schools and Stillwater Public Schools.
What she enjoys most about teaching is seeing her students learn new concepts and experience those special “aha” moments. Mrs. Poyner loves watching students grow, discover their own passions, and gain confidence in themselves and their abilities.
Mrs. Poyner believes her classroom should be a safe place where making mistakes is a normal and important part of learning. She wants her students to develop a lifelong curiosity for learning. Most importantly, she believes her classroom is more than just a classroom—it is a family where students celebrate one another and provide support when it is needed.
Outside of school, Mrs. Poyner enjoys spending time with family and friends. Her family loves all kinds of sports and outdoor activities. She especially appreciates Sperry's small-town feel and strong sense of community. A fun fact about Mrs. Poyner is that she was once an avid bowler and traveled to compete in tournaments.
