Matt Warwick
English and Career Explorations Teacher
Matt Warwick has been part of education for 20 years, including the past five years at Sperry Public Schools. He teaches English to students in grades 9–12 and serves as the Head High School/Junior High Boys and Girls Golf Coach. Mr. Warwick attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa before completing his bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Economics at Oklahoma State University. He has also taken engineering courses and classes toward an MBA at Oklahoma City University. Throughout his career, he has worked in education at Wagoner, Bixby, and Olive.
What Mr. Warwick enjoys most about teaching is working with young people and helping them find the right direction. He believes today's students will eventually lead the world and takes seriously the opportunity to encourage and guide them. He wants his students to leave his classroom with confidence that they can pursue whatever they choose in life, while also understanding the importance of being accountable for the decisions they make. His teaching style is open and straightforward, and he believes in being honest with his students rather than sugarcoating things.
Outside of school, Mr. Warwick enjoys everything about golf—from playing and building clubs to learning new coaching techniques and watching the sport on television. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and loves his family, including his two sons, who he says are the most important things in the world to him.
Mr. Warwick appreciates the Sperry community because it reminds him of where he grew up. He values the hardworking people, strong community, and pride that residents have in where they live. One fun fact about Mr. Warwick is that he had a very interesting career and life before becoming a teacher, including traveling to 52 countries around the world. He also jokes that if he doesn't finish his master's degree, he will be the only person in his family without one!
