Martha Rickman
First Grade Teacher
Martha Rickman has been an educator for 20 years, including the past nine years at Sperry Public Schools. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and a master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Reading from Northeastern State University. She began her teaching career with Tulsa Public Schools at Celia Clinton Elementary.
What she enjoys most about teaching is her students. Mrs. Rickman loves animals and nature and incorporates them into many classroom activities. She also believes in active learning and provides opportunities for students to learn through movement and hands-on experiences. Above all, she wants her students to know that they are loved and cared for, always.
Mrs. Rickman believes students learn best when they are actively involved in constructing their own knowledge rather than simply receiving information from the teacher. She works hard to encourage curiosity, independence, and meaningful learning experiences that help students take an active role in their education.
Outside of school, Mrs. Rickman enjoys spending time on her farm with her animals and enjoying nature. She loves to play the piano and sing. One of her favorite places to visit is Tallgrass Prairie, where she enjoys seeing the bison and going hiking. She appreciates the autonomy given to teachers at Sperry to teach required standards in ways that best fit their students' learning needs.
